Crewe Alexandra are in deep trouble at the wrong end of the English League One table especially after their late defeat at home to Bolton Wanderers over the weekend. Crewe Alexandra were set for a draw when the two teams met on Saturday before substitute AmadouBakayoko scored the winning goal for Bolton Wanderers on the stroke of full-time.
The target for Crewe Alexandra at the moment is to escape relegation from League One to League Two and they will need a miracle to achieve this feat after a poor 2021/22 season till date. They had lost four league games in quick succession ahead of the visit of Bolton Wanderers who are comfortable in mid-table as far the League One log is concerned.
The run of four straight league defeats before the home game with Bolton had hampered Crewe and their chances of surviving relegation in League One and those chances were further affected with the late goal from Sierra Leone striker Bakayoko who had come on for Icelandic forward Jon DadiBodvarsson on 72 minutes. He would go on to score the winning goal to break Crewe hearts off the assist from George Johnston.
Crewe Alexandra are the bottom team in League One and it would take a miracle for them to survive this season as pointed out earlier. As things stand on the League One table, Crewe Alexandra have a poor return of 25 points from 39 games and they are nine points from safety with seven games left to play and a maximum of 21 points to fight for between now and the end of the regular season in League One. Crewe have won six league games since the start of this season till date and they might need to double that tally in the last seven games to stay in League One for next season.
