DAVIS LEFT DISAPPOINTED

The Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has said that he is extremely disappointed with the defending of his team in the match against Yeovil town during the weekend. The manager has also said that he is likely to bring in a few players in order to bolster the squad and also provide competition to the current players. He has accused the players of not giving their all in recent matches, and reckons that the presence of some competition will prove to be the difference. The strikers have not been performing at their best especially in the recent matches. Davies has targeted the striking area as one to reinforce over the next few weeks with some loan arrivals.

Byron Webster scored the only goal of the game that helped Yeovil town get all three points from the match. As a result, Crewe Alexandra were not able to build on the win over Swindon during the midweek action. Davies has also strangely claimed that his players do not have the quality necessary in order to break down the opposition in this league. This is unlikely to go well with the players. The club will now be facing Wycombe Wanderers in the FA Cup hoping for a good cup run this season.

“We were carrying too many players again and the front three were poor. Chucks (Aneke) looked like he had lead boots on, (Mathias) Pogba kept giving it away and (Michael) West was totally off the pace. The players aren’t good enough at the moment to be consistent. To break teams down in this division we need more quality and when three or four of your front players are off their game you can’t mount any decent attacks,” said the Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis. The result leaves them in the 18th position.

DAVIS LOOKS FOR LOANS

The Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has said that he is likely to enter into the loan market in order to get strikers to the squad. The club has made an average start to the League One season. They have just two victories to show for the last five matches, which has meant that they are currently in the 13th position in the table. Steve Davis has said that he will be at least looking to get into the play-off spots with Crewe Alexandra. In order to do so, the squad needs reinforcement according to the manager. However, he is unlikely to buy the players due to the limited budget.

As a result, he will be entering into the loan market especially after the Premier league squads have been sealed. This would allow Steve Davis to look at various Premier league players to bring on loan deals. Attack will be a crucial area where Steve Davis should strengthen after he has recently lost the duo of Harry Bunn and Mathias Pogba to injuries. It is expected that both these players will be out for a significant amount of the season. As a result, the club needs to have options up front according to the manager.

“If it’s an injury that keeps him [Bunn] out for several months, he may have to go back. And I may have to delve back into the loan market to bring somebody else in. Pogba is still a couple of weeks away, and that would have helped us if he’d have been a bit closer. So that’s maybe where I’ll go, I’ll look to bolster that forward line,” said Steve Davis after the 0-0 draw with Tranmere Rovers. This draw now means that the club has no more than two victories in the last five matches.

DAVIS PROTECTS CLAYTON

The Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has said that he will be doing everything to protect the star striker Max Clayton, who has been spoken of as the next Michael Owen. The 18-year-old striker has become the next big thing to come out from the Crewe Alexandra academy. However, he has been subject to a lot of physical challenges from the opposition in the match as he has played so far. In order to protect one of his best players, the manager has revealed that he will be going to extreme lengths in order to ensure that Max Clayton does not suffer any major injuries as a result of the physical challenges.

Steve Davis has confirmed that Max Clayton will feature in a number of matches this year, but will not be burnt out in such a way that it hampers his long-term development. Clayton was not part of the match against Scunthorpe United during the weekend. This was due to the injuries he suffered in a match against Notts County on the opening game of the season. Crewe Alexandra were defeated 2-1 in the match, but they decided not to risk the star striker in the match against Scunthorpe. Crewe Alexandra ended up winning the match 2-1.

“Max is just a kid and we’ve got to protect him. There will be some times when he takes a bit of a battering, like he did against Notts County. He was prepared to play with heavily bruised ribs at Scunthorpe, but I thought taking him out of the firing line was the right thing to do. Introducing him later on when defenders were getting tired meant his movement and his quick feet could catch them out, and that’s how it proved,” said Steve Davis after the Scunthorpe United match.

BROWN RULES OUT MOORE

Aberdeen manager Craig Brown has said that they are not interested in the possibility of bringing free-agent and former Crewe Alexandra winger Byron Moore. The winger is out of contract after having been released by the club in the summer.

Initial transfer reports suggested that Aberdeen would be interested in making a move for the winger, but the manager has said that he is a player that is not on the watch list of the club at the moment, even though he has Premier League experience from playing for Chelsea in the past. It is the news that will be greeted with cheers from arch rivals Hibernian, who are also thought to be interested in Byron Moore’s signature.

It is thought that Craig Brown would shift his interest towards securing the services of the 24-year-old Inverness player Caledonian Thistle rather than sign the Crewe Alexandra youth academy product. The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the hot properties in Scottish football right now, with a number of Scottish clubs leading the chase.

Hibernian now have moved in front of the queue to secure his signature. Craig Brown has confirmed that he is not looking at Byron Moore, but he would be interested in making additional signings before the end of the transfer window.

“Byron Moore is a new name to me. We have done our best to get Hayes, and it is our understanding he will join us after his summer break,” said Craig Brown in response to the transfer speculation surrounding Byron Moore. We have identified where we need to strengthen. We are speaking to players of the quality we want to improve the team. There’s been a lot of e-mails and phone calls, but that’s as much as I would like to say at this stage,” said the Hibernian boss Fenlon. It is still possible that Byron Moore might stay at Crewe Alexandra.

Crewe team-mate Nick Powell has already moved on to Man Utd.

FOCUS

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has said that the club should be focusing on finishing the job when they face Cheltenham Town in the final of the play-offs. It has been an amazing season for Crewe Alexandra after they made it into the final of the play-offs where they will be facing Cheltenham Town. However, their manager Steve Davis has said that their work is not over yet because they need to win the match in order to get into the League One. The club managed to squeeze themselves into the play-offs position after finishing in the sixth place just two points about the seventh position.

However, they have managed to make the most out of the opportunity to play in the play-offs after winning the semifinals against Southend United 3-2. It was an amazing victory over the club that finished in the third position meaning that they could use the momentum of the final few weeks of the campaign. Now, Steve Davies has said that they should use the same amount to get past Cheltenham Town, which could result in ultimate glory for the club. They will be promoted alongside Swindon town, Shrewsbury town, and Crawley town to the League One.

“We crept in the back door and were delighted just to be there. But, once we’d done that, we wanted to go all the way and finish the job. For it to come in their first season I hope they don’t think this is going to happen every season. Having said that, they’ve worked very hard for it. The lads did well in the first game and we knew it was going be different in front of a big crowd baying for something better. But, for us to come through is a fantastic achievement,” Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis said after the match.

POWELL TIPPED FOR STARDOM

Crewe Alexandra’s Nick Powell has showed the reason for him being rated as one of the best young prospects within English football over the past few months. The 17-year-old teenager has been regarded as a player capable of playing for the top clubs in England. He has now been voted as the Football League Young Player of the Month for the month of December. The attacking midfielder is a product of the youth academy at Crewe Alexandra. The League two club Crewe Alexandra expressed its delight at having Nick Powell named as the best young talent for the month of December.

Nick Powell has been a youth player Crewe Alexandra since five years old. He made his debut for the club when he was just 16 years old, and it was during the season that he established himself as a first team regular for the club. It has been rumoured that clubs like Liverpool and Tottenham are having to look at the player. Even if Nick Powell does not secure a transfer to a big club this transfer window, many are expecting him to move to a Premier league club in the summer.

“He has always stood out as a talent. He has always been different. As Nick walked off the pitch at Wimbledon, I thought ‘this is it, he has arrived’. That was his best game by a long way and he has carried on with a series of mature performances since then,” Crewe director of football Dario Gradi said. Nick Powell scored his first senior goal for Crewe Alexandra earlier in the season. He has also been a regular for the England under 16 and England under 17 matches. His debut came as a late substitute in the match against Cheltenham on August 2010.
